How the dredger works

Feb 09, 2020

Some dredgers do not have the ability to navigate. Every time they change their working positions, they are always driven by a tug; the sand dug from the bottom is poured into the waiting barge to be towed away. The dredger with its own navigating power works on the channel of larger ships, and uses a thick hose (drain pipe) to suck the silt. The dredger stores the mud and sand in the cabin, fills it up and drove overseas to dump it. The side-extending boom dredger is an effective tool for cleaning narrow waterways. It travels steadily and slowly, walking about 3,700 meters per hour, shoveling a 35-meter-wide waterway at the bottom of the lake, and the pump sucks the mud along the long Boom, spray back into the water far from the watercourse. Large ships with deep drafts especially need to rely heavily on such dredgers.

The task of the dredger is to carry out the construction of underwater earth and stone, specifically: digging, widening and clearing existing waterways and ports; digging new waterways, ports and canals; dredging docks, docks, locks and other water The foundation trenches of industrial buildings and the dumping of the excavated sand into the deep sea or hydraulic filling in land depressions.

The working capacity of a dredger is expressed in terms of how many cubic meters of soil can be digged per hour. Dredgers are divided into motorized and non-motorized. According to the construction characteristics, they can be divided into trailing suction, hinged suction, chain bucket, Grab type and bucket type, etc.
