The bucket wheel dredger has the same characteristics as the cutter suction dredger. Except that the mechanical method of digging is different, the rotation axis of the wheel is at an angle to the support arm, while the cutter head of the cutter suction dredger rotates. The axis is parallel to the support arm. The wheel cutter axis is perpendicular to the long axis of the support arm, which means that the bucket wheel digging process is symmetrical with its yaw direction. The way of undercutting or upcutting depends mainly on the direction of rotation of the bucket wheel around its axis, not on the direction of its oscillation.
